FIGHTING FOR THE ARTISTS

Everything starts with the song. The Song is king, they say...

And still every year many artists and songwriters are hardly paid for the work.

Every year almost a billion euros' worth of royalties are not paid out to rights holders.

They seemingly disappear without leaving a trace, unidentified.

“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.”

― Hunter S. Thompson

How often do you hear that artists and songwriters shouldn’t meddle in the business side of it because they don’t understand anything about it. This allows unscrupulous people in the music industry (such as publicists, record labels, agents etc.) to control the money and keep the artists in the dark about what’s actually happening.

Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek is worth 3.8 billion dollars. He’s 3 times richer than the most successful musician in the world, Paul McCartney, and he has never written a song.

In the documentary UP + COMING we listen to emerging artists, their hopes, dreams and struggles. We hear music industry experts and established artists advising young artists and giving them real life experiences.

We want to see justice done for this generation of songwriters and artists that hardly have wings to fly any more.

What would the world be without music?
